Thanks for your response and kind words. When I speak of a "good turn of phrase" I mean a phrase which is well-crafted, apposite, appropriate, evocative, and the best it can be to do the job it must do in the narrative context.
In other words, probably not just the first thing that comes into my head. Something more considered. The phrase itself may be simple; in fact, most well-turned phrases come about by simplifying and making things more succinct and concise. Unlike this comment! ;)
